Soundscape Storyboards Finalised.

My soundscape storyboard was pretty much done before but I've gone ahead and finalised them making them more clear and adding frames inbetween making it flow a bit better.

Artists Toolkit 'Animation' (Drawing)

Today's life drawing, drawings of Alan focusing on foreshortening.

Research - Jurassic Park.

Jurassic Park inspired one of my ideas having a character explain the cycle, interacting somehow with the process, getting to grips with it. Below is a clip of the scene from Jurassic Park if your not familiar with it.

I could see this character coming to life (keeping with the plant idea and having maybe a slug/snail that also relates to the other two options) on the screen helping children maybe get more excited about science in a comical way rather than a serious one, making it less boring for them.

Fern Cell Cycle.

I've decided to go with the Fern Plant topic for this project, don't really know why just liked the idea more than Moss. I've gone ahead and drawn over the original cell cycle diagram to explain some ideas using it more like a mind map.

Storytelling & Commission - Fantastic Voyage Project & Initial Ideas.

Our briefing today was about the reproduction of cells; we got a choice of 4 different cycles to choose from 2 about slimy mould: Cellular Mould & Plasmodial Slime. And another 2 about plants: Fern & Moss.

Instantly I felt more connected with the plant cell cycles and thought thats where my base of ideas and research should start from. So after the briefing I've come away and done a mind map of the possible ideas of what could be the main feature/story of my 2 minute animation. I also thought about the audience.

I did these ideas while looking online at a diagram of both plants getting to grips with the science but I haven't decided yet what plant cycle I want to do so thats my next decision to make so I can start researching more about it.

So far I like the 3rd idea of having this garden insect explaining how its habitat is made.

Character Biographies.

The Hairdresser -

Your typical gay hairdresser that has the perfect head of hair - a blonde bouncy quiff and a soul patch that he is proud of (the bum fluff on his chin). He's very lanky with these long model like legs, with flipper feet on the ends of them.

The Chubby Lady -

She's that Lady who wants to be a Barbie, but it doesn't work for her. She likes to wear fake eyelashes and has to have a her lippy on. Her walldrobe is full of short dresses which don't do her any favours and just needs a friend to tell her to buy longer ones. She's booked in for her usual haircut and dyed but has not long got a new pet which can't be left alone just yet.

The Micro Pig -

The Micro Pig is the Chubby Lady's new pet and as its only a young piglet it can't be left alone just yet and so ends up getting carried around in the lady's purse like a purse dog making the poor pig an accessory to the Lady.

Character Concept Art.

I've gone back over my character concept art as my previous ones were very much a cartoon rather than concept art and I think they blend in with my Environment Concept more too; as if they fit in more. I've added more shadows to them so that they don't look so flat.

Maya Pre-Viz - The Beauty Parlour.

I had some trouble fitting my soundscape along side with the maya as some scenes in maya were longer than in my Animatic.

The Beauty Parlour - Script Edited.

I've edited my script as some bits weren't needed and didn't make sense.

'From Script to Screen' Film Review.

Animatic Soundscapes.

I had to keep going back and editing the sounds to make them fit to the animatic but also because some sounds over powered others, and I think I've got it right now but maybe the back track is still overpowering? Along with the Animatic though, I think it works well.

This first one shows the sounds I've added to create effects, going out and about collecting them.

These next too have a backing track added to them because in the Hairdressers the radio is going and theres always a song on faintly.

I've decided to go with 3rd one as I think the balance is alright and the song doesn't overpower it.

Environment & Prop Sheets.

Here are all the various looks of my Beauty Parlour - before and after the chaos; and also here are some views of my prop in use and not in use.

Character Sheets.

Here are all the various drawings I've done for each of my characters.

Character Influence Map.

Looney Tunes was a big influence with all my characters in there exageration of movements and other cartoons like Johnny Bravo and the critic from Ratatouille with the lanky legs and the massive blonde quiff.

Animatic Version 1.

Here is my animatic with no sound, but with the storyboard all put together. When the sound is added some of the frames may change and be slower is some parts then others.

Finalised Storyboard.

I've kinda got carried away with the storyboard and kept thinking oh I can draw this and that, haven't done myself any favours really but heres my finalised storyboard ready to be put into an Animatic.

Storyboard Sketches 4.

Here are the remaining sketches for my storyboard.

Storyboard Sketches 2.

These are some more quick sketches of my story moving into a storyboard, focusing on the Key-Frames.

As I've decided about my frames, I've worked out the back view of my characters and in the drawing above I've started working out other parts of the story like what the lady looks like in the chair etc...
