Short Character Skinning

This is a playblast to show the skinning, next step is to create the rig like the medium character. Along side doing this I have also started testing out textures/creating each individual medium character.

Facial Rig is complete for the medium character. I've added in channels for the eyes to show happy and sleepy eyes; but I can add more in once characters get created.

Medium Character Body Rig.

This is the body rig for my medium character. I've put the ankle and knee joints slightly in the wrong place, which I shall come back to and fix but for the time being I'll carry on and then do the correct places on the others. Next to do is the facial rig.

 Tall Character:

I've had to alter the tall guys skeleton slightly as he's taller so a couple more joints were used.

Medium Character Texture & Lighting Tester.

To understand how I'm going to produce all my characters I began testing out the textures for one seeing if the idea of drawing on different outfits work and its does. The textures need some work but as an initial tester its on its way. The collars of them all are going to be 3D elements to help hide the head and body joining.

Once I had the texture I began testing out lighting starting off by using a simple 4 light set up which was used in the first year. Again this is bound to change the more experiments I do.

As well as testing out textures on the side, I'm beginning to rig and skin my medium character preparing him so that all my medium sized characters are ready to then be customized. I'm hoping to prepare all character sizes as soon as possible, so I can customize them all to match there character.

Medium Character UV.

My medium character base is all UV, ready to be rigged. I've also UV my first character which I'm going to use as a test for the textures.

Character Bases & First Character.

I've modeled all the character bases now, including a throat and eyeballs. Today I've been working on the hair for one character, and have made it out of planes.

I'm planning on making the clothes a texture with the odd parts 3D like a collar and odd accessory.

Character Practice Model 7.

The small character is done, and I've done him a throat now too.

Character Picking.

Before I begin modeling the characters, I wanted to choose the ones which I will definitely use and try and pick names for each. I've got it down to 20 instead of 31, as some of them wasn't as funny as others. I've also made a decision to change some of the laughs around which suit the character more than the other way around.

As I was doing this I realized that a few of them looked the same, so I made a decision which of the look a likes to choose. This will make my modeling process a bit easier.

Character Practice Model 5.

The medium character now has a bum added back into him and I'm moving onto the Tall Character. I've got the body almost done, might need some more smoothing and tweaking once the head is finished. I've got to remodel the head as I chopped up my medium character to model the tall base.

Character Practice Model 4.

Continuing with the modeling of my medium character. I've gone back over the body to make it smoother and have had to make adjustments to the side view as my character doesn't match up in the orthographic views.

Original before changes.

Character Practice Model 3.

The face is finished and I'm working on his hair. Using my witches hair from previous project as a base for the fringe, after trying to make it myself.

Character Practice Model 2.

Mouth and the Eyes have been done; eye needs finishing off. Having a bit of trouble with the cheeks and making the eye smooth as its so close to the mouth. Once eye is complete, the basis of the character is finished and I'm hoping to be able to use this for the base of the medium characters.

Character Practice Model 1.

I've began a practice model for a short character, as this body shape is used most throughout. I was thinking about how to model this and have decided to get a base for the body so that I can just repeat this shape, to then make changes for each head. For each character I will separate the head from the body along there collar lines to make it easier to create blend shapes for each.

It wasn't until I've started modeling that I realized the orthographics are a tad out; especially the hands as they don't make sense. I've decided to give them a thumb to make there hands look like a mitten rather than a ball.
